“A smiling face is the mirror of our body and can heal sick
patients” – Last March I came here for check-up. I was then referred to Dr.
Espinosa so I went to his clinic. He sent me back here for EEG. The staff
downstairs at the front office did the EEG for me right away so I had the time
to go back to Dr. Espinosa who interpreted the result. It was done so fast that
we had the time to go back to Ilocos that same day. I thank the staff very much.
To Lorma as a whole, thank you so much and may God bless you all. All the staff
and employees of Lorma Hospital are very friendly. I’m very glad to see their

year’s Hospital Day.
Hospital Day paves way for
free province-wide health care seminar

For over 70 years, Lorma Medical Center, the largest private
tertiary hospital in Northern Luzon, has considered involvement in the
community a major part of their effort in delivering quality healthcare to the
people of San Fernando City and to the province of La Union. Each year, the
hospital hosts an event aptly named “Hospital Week” to embrace the community
by including in its itinerary a day long event that brings “all” barangay
captains and their families throughout La Union to the hospital for a free
seminar on various topics dealing with health care.
According to Dr. Juan V. Komiya, Medical Director of Lorma
Medical Center, Lorma is the only hospital in the Philippines that promotes
such an activity. “The day is filled with numerous seminars, presentations and
informative talks on healthcare and healthcare-related issues. Participants
are treated to a morning snack, lunch and afternoon snack very similar to the
program format used in most paid seminars. Children are also treated to
various activities to keep them occupied for the entire day.”
Aside from lectures, participants can avail of free medical
consultation on a wide range of healthcare concerns. This year, participating
drug companies offered free Lipid Profile testing for those interested. Out of
13 volunteers, 7 were diagnosed to have liver problems and were treated
immediately; giving an opportunity for those drug companies to promote their
products as well. Participants were also able to avail of free blood typing,
blood pressure check and advise on diet and exercise.
Lorma also looks at this event as an opportunity to inform
participants of changes within the hospital, updated facilities & services and
plans for the future. At the moment, the healthcare industry is facing
tremendous challenges and Lorma Medical Center is positioning itself to face
those challenges head on while continuing the tradition of providing quality
healthcare in Northern Luzon.
Currently, the hospital is expanding its facilities to include
a new, state-of-the-art operating wing, an upgraded emergency room with
mini-lab, new doctors’ and administrative offices and an extension of its
current imaging room to accommodate the first and only M.R.I. in La Union.
Plans are also underway to qualify the hospital for ISO9001 certification
which, aims to position Lorma as the only medical facility in the north worthy
of being referred to as “truly world class.”
Hospital Day drew in a crowd of about 200 participants despite
of the heavy rains prevalent in the morning. Dr. Nelson Gundran, Chief of
Residents at Lorma Medical Center, says “normally, we accommodate over 400
participants with more than half of the towns in La Union represented by 100%
of its barangay captains. This year’s event still proved to be very successful
despite the reduction in size of participants. We look forward to continuing
our efforts in hosting events such as Hospital Day to maintain the closeness
Lorma has to the community it serves.” #AA
