“A smiling face is the mirror of our body and can heal sick patients” – Last March I came here for check-up. I was then referred to Dr. Espinosa so I went to his clinic. He sent me back here for EEG. The staff downstairs at the front office did the EEG for me right away so I had the time to go back to Dr. Espinosa who interpreted the result. It was done so fast that we had the time to go back to Ilocos that same day. I thank the staff very much. To Lorma as a whole, thank you so much and may God bless you all. All the staff and employees of Lorma Hospital are very friendly. I’m very glad to see their smiling faces every morning. Keep up your good work!!!
- Patient Rm 426.

“My thanks to Dr. Gamboa and MCO in the ER who gave a helping hand during my life and death situation. I can’t forget all of you who gave me my second life and of course to our beloved God Almighty who used your hospital to help me survive. I was so satisfied. In behalf of my small kids, husband and my relatives, thank you very much! God bles you all!” – From 2A (Ward)

Lorma hospital has improved a lot when it comes to services. The personnel are so caring and they always offer a friendly smile. I am happy to see some interns who were my former students in high school. They are so cheerful and fresh looking which help the patients recover fast. LORMA EXCELLENT! – From Rm. 222

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Med center takes “back-to-basics” approach in healthcare.

By: Ramil Ramirez, December 17, 2003, San Fernando City, La Union.

In the early days of medicine, doctors used to visit patients at their homes to provide medical care. The doctor/patient relationship was a meaningful one; providing a trusting bond that would last for generations. The doctor had intimate knowledge of their patients’ condition as well as knowing them personally and professionally, which comforted patients because of the close relationship with their doctor. Today’s delivery of healthcare services has taken a more impersonal approach with patients visiting hospitals and are treated by doctors who know them based on a few questions about their health, their current ailment and brief diagnosis; quite different from healthcare in the past.

In an effort to bring healthcare closer to the community, Lorma Medical Center in San Fernando City, La Union recently launched an Onsite Home & Office Laboratory Service aimed at providing a way for patients to avail of lab tests at the comfort of their home or office. Patients who are unable to visit the hospital for whatever reason (ie. physically unable, ill or too busy) can easily monitor their vital statistics by arranging for a medical technologist to visit them and extract the necessary specimen for testing. The specimen is then taken back to the laboratory at Lorma for further analysis with most results being available within 1-2 hours. Test results can be sent via phone, fax, email, text message or hand delivered either to the patients' home, office or the patients' physician.

Results have been overwhelming. According to Allan A. Alvarez, Director of Marketing and Administrative Services, response to the service has so far exceeded expectations. "The service proves to be invaluable particularly to those who are ill and who are not able to make the trip to the hospital," says Mr. Alvarez. According to Mr. Alvarez, Another segment of the market who finds value in the new service is the professional who is too busy to go to the hospital. “There just isn't enough time in the day to go to the hospital. Especially with increasing traffic in the San Fernando City area and parking spaces at a premium, having highly skilled medical technologists visit you at home or office is a welcomed value-added service.”

Corporations, too, have taken notice of the value the onsite service provides. Since its inception, there have been La Union-based corporations and government agencies that have used the onsite service for their annual physical examinations. Based on feedback from HR executives, Mr. Alvarez says, “Lorma has a reputation of providing quality health care and bringing that level of service to corporations gives human resource managers and company nurses confidence that they are receiving excellent care for their employees.” More inquiries are pouring in for the service and it is expected that other companies, professionals and individuals in the area will soon embrace the idea of onsite health care.

Does the future of the delivery of health care services involve going back to its roots and adapting it to today’s society? Lorma Medical Center seems to think so and so far, the San Fernando City community seems to agree.

As the old adage goes, “you have to know where you’ve been to know where you’re going” and with 70 years of providing quality health care service, Lorma is positioned to continue setting the standard for the future of health care.(###)
